Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until everything is combined. Don’t overthink it—lumps are okay.
Melt the butter in an 8x8 baking dish in the oven. Carefully remove the dish once the butter is fully melted.
Pour the biscuit dough right on top of the hot butter. Spread it out gently to the corners.
Use a knife to score the dough into 9 squares—this helps it bake evenly.
Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the tops are golden and the edges are crispy.
